The UPEI Faculty Association is calling for greater accountability and transparency around the UPEI Faculty of Medicine.
On Monday, the Faculty Association sent open letters to UPEI’s Board of Governors and UPEI Senate highlighting what it says appear to be significant barriers in establishing a Faculty of Medicine and requesting clarification on the status of the project.
In the letters, Faculty Association President Dr. Michael Arfken says it appears that the Faculty of Medicine has many obstacles to overcome before it can be what was promised in 2021, and that it could potentially be many times more expensive than originally envisioned. He says the Board of Governors needs to take responsibility for the decisions they are making, and to make clear that they will not allow the rest of UPEI or PEI’s healthcare system to be negatively impacted by the Faculty of Medicine.
