CEO of Health PEI

Raised in a farming family with Dutch immigrant roots, Melanie Fraser learned early the value of hard work and community service. These principles have guided her throughout her career, where she has focused on public sector roles aimed at improving lives, addressing key health and social challenges, and serving the communities in which she lives and works.
As the CEO of Health PEI, Melanie is a visionary leader, recognized for her strategic approach and ability to build collaborative teams. A compelling communicator and calm decision-maker, she excels at fostering high-functioning, diverse teams that share a commitment to transparency and accountability. Under her leadership, Health PEI is driven by a culture of values that prioritizes excellence and equitable access to quality healthcare for Islanders.
As a woman in a leadership role, Melanie is passionate about empowering women, both personally and professionally. She advocates for removing barriers that women face, ensuring their voices are heard, and making the healthcare system responsive to the diverse needs of women throughout their lives. She is dedicated to cultivating a safe, inclusive workplace at Health PEI and actively mentors women to help them rise to leadership positions.
Melanie began her role as CEO of Health PEI in March 2024. Prior to this, she served as Associate Deputy Minister of Health in Ontario, and held various executive roles, including Corporate Chief Information Officer for Ontario, Chief Administrative Officer at Treasury Board, and Director of Operations for the Ontario Death Investigation System. Melanie holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and received the President’s Gold Medal from Wilfrid Laurier University. She also completed the Senior Public Sector Executive Program at the Ivey Business School, Western University.
